I had a filly that I had trained with natural horsemanship methods from the time she was born. When she became old enough to start her training under saddle, it was important for me to find someone that was willing, knowledgable, capable and affordable that would travel to my farm to help gently start her under saddle. On the second training day, Bob was able to ride my filly in a leisurely walk around my farm, through the trees, over logs, between horse pastures along side galloping horses. After 20 rides, my filly kept her happy willing attitude and was better started under saddle than 90 days of training that I had paid for with some of my other young horses in the past.

In my 20's, I took a bad fall off a horse
and was afraid of riding after that. When my daughter started taking
lessons from Bob, I hung around to watch and to groom the horses.
After two years of this, Bob asked, When are you going to get on&
ride? He allowed me to walk, then trot until I was ready to lope.
I gained enough confidence and knowledge to purchase our own horse,
help train him and ride him on the trail. I even competed in a 4H
event. Alas, no ribbons, but a lot of fun!

I grew up like any horse crazy 7 year old
girl & I could not take my eyes off of horses, I had to learn everything
I could about them and I dreamed of racing across a wide open field
on one. My parents decided that it was a phase and thought I would
grow out of it. They took me to Circle D Ranch for lessons to see
how dedicated I was. As it turns out, taking lessons from Bob Dorn
only fueled the fire. I was now hooked for life and nothing could
pry me from the saddle. For five years I took formal lessons and then
my family made the ultimate commitment: we bought a 4 year old paint
gelding named Socks. Fast forward 6 more years: I am preparing to
go to college at Texas Tech and study animal science. My dream of
owning a horse business is being fulfilled and I couldn’t be
happier with my career choice and major choice. In total, I have taken
lessons and boarded Socks at Circle D Ranch 11 years, and I wouldn’t
consider taking him anywhere else. In my 11 years of riding (so far),
I have learned not only to master the art of riding, but have learned
to rope, barrel race and even jump. I would not be where I am today
without Bob Dorn or Circle D Ranch. Take it from experience –
for some people horses are not a phase little girls go through. It
can lead to a lifetime career and hobby. All it takes is a great instructor,
a great horse and the rest will fall into place.

I wanted to share my wonderful experience
with Bob Dorn and the time I spent at Circle D Ranch. I started taking
horseback riding lessons with Bob in 2002. I had ridden before, but
never felt all that comfortable around horses. Bob was very patient
with me. He has a great sense of humor and made the lessons very enjoyable.
He explained how horses think and react to me and their environment.
I worked with Bob and his horses for about two years. Unfortunately,
my job moved me to Houston in 2004 or I would still be riding at the
Circle D Ranch with Bob Dorn today. His demeanor helped calm me which,
in turn, made me a better rider. He has great horses - they are all
very well trained and skilled to work with novice riders or more knowledgeable
riders. If you are a young or old(er) person that is contemplating
taking lessons
you will have one of the best lifetime encounters
with Bob and the Circle D Ranch!
Those will be two years I will never forget-

We just had our 4 year old daughters birthday
at Circle D Ranch and I have to say, it will be hard to top this one.
It was a blast and not only did the kids have a great time, but the
parents did as well. Becky and Bob are such kind people and go out
of their way to make the cowboy experience a memorable one. The facility
has so much to do and the horses are very docile and friendly. The
highlight of the party was the cowboy surfing that we did during the
hay ride. While many of this kids did fall, they were having so much
fun they jumped right back on the board laughing and smiling. At the
end of the party I could hear a number of kids tell their parents
that they wanted to have their birthday party at Circle D Ranch. Thank
you Bob and Becky for a wonderful experience that we will be talking
about for years.
